Roses

This new embossing folder by Cart-us is my favourite, not only because of the beautiful design, but because of the non-linear pattern. Linear patterns require straight cutting, otherwise the design looks crooked.

Introducing Tim Holtz' Embossing Diffuser

Though I didn't get the crisp results using the Embossing Diffuser that I expected, it did create a smooth area for me to directly stamp my sentiment. This makes things easier, since it is more difficult to adhere a die cut stamped with a sentiment to a dry embossed card front.

All Dressed Up

Dry embossing is still one of my favourite techniques. I used a brass stencil and shims to get a crisp image with my Big Shot. I think the rhinestones make perfect tree ornaments.

Plastic Stencils in the Big Shot

Since Stampendous designed a plastic stencil specifically for this stamp, I thought I would try it in my Big Shot for my stamped image. Like the plastic embossing folders, this worked very well. However, due to the thinness of this plastic stencil, paper shims were required. I left the stencil on the dry embossed image in order to ink the raised surfaces only.

To Bling or Not to Bling

In my version of this card, I added a little more dimension by using foam squares between the red and top layers of the card. It may not be apparent in the scan, but a dry embossed line 1/4" from the edge of the white cardstock frames the face. I did this with a Scor-Pal. The design appealed to me because I liked the use of a few small squares, stamped with the same image, but in a different way, to show movement. The original card had rhinestones in the middle of the snowflakes. Though I didn't include them on my card, I think they will be added before the card is mailed.

Back to Brass

I used another brass stencil to create the dry embossing bunny. Without the brass stencil with me, I decided to highlight the ears and feet by carefully colouring these areas with a fine paint brush and Distress Ink.

I got the eggs "in the basket" by placing a sticky note across the top of it and then stamping my eggs.

Chalk One Up

To "pop" dry embossed images I have used ink in the past, but I found it too harsh. This time I chose to apply chalk to the raised areas of the rabbit to get a softer look. The chalk is applied while the stencil is still taped to the paper.

Put All Your Eggs in One Basket

Another great way to use paper scraps is to punch out shapes from various coordinated patterned papers. The eggs were layered in the basket for a realistic look.
