An Art Journaled Card

After being inspired by Judy Gooderham`s desire to start an art journal, I thought I would attempt the same on a card front. I look forward to getting some embossing paste to use with my stencils. I hoped the inked stenciled patterns would pull the design together, but believe the richer colour and texture of the paste will produce better results.

BTW, sorry to not have included Card Recipes as of late, but doing my best to keep new cards posted. If you have any questions, please don`t hesitate to ask!

Cards for Candy

Not all of these are from the Birthday Club gals, but Candy was kind enough to share all of the cards she received with us.

In Form

I have been dying to incorporate the Spellbinder Decorative Dress Form dies into a card design. One die from the Elegant Posts die set includes something for the perfect dress form stand. I thought a popular textile pattern like herringbone was the perfect background pattern to use.

Unique Products Make Unique Cards

This isn't a card that I'd think of using, but can honestly say that the need has arisen. It's fun to die cut shapes in different patterned and solid papers.

The embossed paper adds even more dimension to the layers.

3 Colours of Distress Inks

Three colours of Distress Inks were used to colour this image. The properties of the inks allowed for seamless colouration. The cardstock base was chosen to match one of the Distress Inks used.

Highlighting with Distress Inks

By consciously colouring the stamped image with two colours of Distress Inks, I was able to highlight a particular part of it with a lighter colour.

CTMH Adhesive Borders

The CTMH kraft adhesive border was a perfect match to the ink I used to stamp this image. These borders can also be coloured with ink. They come in an assorted package--a highly recommended product.

Pattern on Pattern

I felt that the pattern in this stamp image was bold enough to stand out on this patterned paper. I would have preferred, however, if the blue ink was not as translucent. Tried to stamp the image a second time, but have to say that I was disappointed. Used a felt "button" for a different embellishment.

Sprigs of Bling

Stamped Twice, Pieced Once

I stamped this image once on cream coloured paper and a second time on red cardstock. I cut out the floral part of the red cardstock and adhered it to the complete, cut out image.

Blended Columns of Colour

This image lended itself to be coloured in columns. The Distress Inks blend in such a manner that a sharp definition of colour is avoided, making the finished, coloured image appear more coherent.

Papers: pink cardstock (CM), blue cardstock (Bazzill), white cardstock (Georgia Pacific)

Many Mats

The smaller size of this stamped image allowed me to matte it in the same colours used on the stamped image. It was "fussy cut" to add more interest than a plain rectangle.

Grid Paper

Grid paper has been a popular patterned paper base layer for many card designs lately. It is subtle enough to be noticed, but not fight the attention required to the stamped image.
