Little Ones

On these 3 X 3 cards, not only did I use scraps of patterned paper, but I used the smaller dies in my Spellbinder sets to cut them.

Flying Free

To give the butterfly dimension, the wings of the cut out image can be bent up, around the pearls. Papertrey Ink has made their sentiments in a second, somewhat larger size, called Mega Mixed Messages. This set of stamps is a good investment too.

Doubling Die Cuts

I made two die cuts of the same size out of two different pieces of patterned paper and cut off the bottom third of the "solid" one to create a space to stamp my sentiment. When layered, the pieces fit together perfectly.

Making a Circular Scalloped Frame

Here I used a scalloped circle die and a classic circle die to create a round frame. I adhere both dies to my cardstock with repositional tape and feed everything through the Big Shot.

Second Generation Stamping

My first attempt at Second Generation stamping taught me that an image with heavier lines probably would have produced a more satisfactory result. I inked my image, stamped it once and then stamped it a second time, without reinking.

What a Bella!

Stamping Bella has a full line of Bella's to suit your needs. Deb has brought in a number of them and I just had to have this Diva. I couldn't wait to make her scarf life like by filling it with Flower Soft. I stamped her dress on a piece of the patterned paper to paper piece the image. Copics were used to colour the remainder of the stamped image.

Bloomin' Butterflies are Back

Though I've always loved butterfly images, they seem to have made a comeback at CHA Winter 2011. This time I stamped it on a finely detailed patterned paper. This is probably the most popular Hero Arts stamp ever made!

Inchies

Companies, including Impression Obsession, Lockhart Stamps and Papertrey Ink, have created lines of stamp images that are one inch in size. This is my first attempt with these tiny images. I used 3 different complimentary colours of ink, one for each image, on this 3 X 3 gift card. My ink choices were made easy by using a Colorbox set of cat eye pads.

Make a Matte

Here I took the die cutting one step further. Not only did I create a die cut frame, but I matted it. This card front used 3 dies from one set.

Double Up

Here's another example from my die cut demo where I created a frame using two dies from the same set. I "popped" the frame with foam square for dimension.

Watered My Flowers

I finally put this image to use. I was one of a few I stamped and watercoloured on water colour paper. Though more expensive, it does not "pill" from saturation as regular cardstock does. Georgia Pacific is a good second choice for colouring with this medium.

Build Your Beads

My first attempt at filling this heart with microbeads was not satisfactory. I found it necessary to apply a second layer of beads (right over the first application) to get a completely filled image. In doing so, I created a lovely dimensional heart.

Doily-like

If you don't have actual doilies, the Spellbinder pennant dies are very similar in nature. Though this is square and not round, it still has the same "lacey-ness" I was looking for. A die cut doily will provide a smoother surface on which to stamp an image. Once again, I've used a variety of buttons to complete my card design.

Hoily Doily!

Doilies are very popular at this time and I plan to incorporate them in various ways. This is actually a paper doily, readily available for purchase in many retail stores.

Die Cutting Embossed Shapes

Many people ask whether they should die cut and then dry emboss, so that they do not lose the texture in the cardstock. I always dry emboss my paper first and then cut my shape. The shaped die leaves a finished edge on the die cut.

Nested Hearts 2

Here I have used the middle sized heart in this new Spellbinder set. It was inked in the same way as the larger heart, by leaving the die cut in the die and sponging the ink on the raised parts of the cardstock.

Building a Flower

This time I chose to build a flower out of layers of different flowers and a circle of pearls. The possible combinations of different elements are endless. The tiny size of the sentiment stamps from Papertrey Ink are a necessary part of your stamp collection, as they fit into the tiniest places, as seen here.

Using Four Different Dies

At the last crop, the purpose of my demo was to show people how to best use different Spellbinder dies together. In this case, I used at least one die from 4 different sets: Bigz Top Note Die (but same size as Labels 8), Classic Circles Large, Hearts and Long Rectangles.

Lacey Circles

As soon as I saw these dies, I knew they were a "must have". They also come in squares and ovals have been recently released at CHA. I will definitely be adding the ovals to my collection.

Negative Impact

In this case I used a Spellbinder Circle die to cut out part of my patterned paper to create a window under which I could slide stamp my image. I pinched the horizontal piece of ribbon and adhered the bow to it, to give the impression that it was actually all one piece. I must say that I would have never gotten as flat a bow with gros grain ribbon of this width without my Bow Easy.

A Big Heart

Once again I used the largest die from the new Spellbinder Nested Hearts die set. It warrants a 6 X 6 card base, but this worked well with the quarter of my patterned paper. The die was left on while I sponged ink onto the raised areas of paper. I left a lighter spot on the heart to give the appearance of dimension.

Dying for Flowers

One way to make your flowers coordinate with your other card products is to colour them. My colourant of choice is Glimmer Mist. It allows you to control the concentration of colour. Here I used a combination of peach and and brown toned Glimmer Mists. The larger flower was originally white.

Large & Lovely

This was another quarter from the same 12 X 12 piece of patterned paper used in yesterday's card. I tried to frame the gorgeous bird with a ribbon border and brads. I stamped the Happy Valentine's Day sentiment on the inside of the card.

Large Patterns in Paper

I usually steer clear of papers with big patterns in them, but this one made a perfect 6 X 6 card front. There was room to heat emboss my sentiment in silver, to match the ribbon bow.
