Debbie Mumm's Christmas #1

This is a very simple and quick card to make. Many designers of patterned papers are now including one page of "strips" of the different patterns of paper in a product line. I simply cut one strip from the sheet and tied a ribbon and bow around it.

The Difference with Distress Stickles Part 2

Don't know what happened, but all of the copy was not included in this morning's post. It should have read, "These aren't your ordinary Stickles! Instead of metallic glitter, Distress Stickles combine a pearlized glitter of various particle sizes. Paired with the popular colour palette of Distress Inks and Paints and you have a very vintage (almost mica looking) distress glitter glue. The texture is amazing!"

The Difference with Distress Stickles

These aren't your ordinary Stickles! Instead of metallic glitter, Distress Stickles combine a pearlized glitter of various particle sizes. Paired with the popular colour palette of Distress Inks and Paints and you have a very vintage (almost mica looking) distress glitter glue. The texture is amazing!
I stamped and heat embossed the snowman to create "boundaries" to make the neat application of the product a little easier.

Scallops of Different Sizes

I saw this border idea used on another card and couldn't wait to use it. It's important to use the patterned paper with the smaller pattern when cutting the smaller scallops and using the border punch with the larger scallops on the relatively larger patterned paper. To give the Christmas tree some interest, I first stamped the cardstock with a paisley patterned background stamp before I punched it out. Because of the thickness of the Distress Stickles I was not able to write a fine line and dipped the edges of the tree in a puddle of it.

Stickles for Coal

Though I have used black rhinestones for eyes in the past, I thought that black Stickles would be perfect for the coal on this snowman. The small opening in the bottle allows you enough control to get just enough product out for this purpose. And you can vary the size of the dots of Stickles to suit the image.

Colouring with Copics

This plaid patterned paper had a country feel to it so I chose the sentiment stamp accordingly. I die cut a circle out of the Label die cut to create the perfect frame for the image. I could have popped up the frame for more dimension, but I thought the large bow did the job. To get darker coloured rhinestones, I coloured them with a Copic Marker. These are the only markers that you can use to permanently colour embellishments. Trust me, I tried other markers, including Sharpies.

A Repeating Pattern

Since there was a scroll pattern in the patterned paper, I chose this Christmas tree stamp of the same design. For a little twinkle, I sprayed the stamped oval with Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Mist. The result was a porcelain finish with a little glimmer.

Rustic Reindeer

The colour and texture of this cardstock had a rustic feel to it. With this in mind, I chose stars embellished with buttons and twine kept the theme going. Aged Mahogany Distress Stickles used for the reindeer's eye was the icing on the cake.

Take Out Those Tags!

Yes, the hoarding is over! When these tags came out I had to have them in every size and shape. I waited so long to use them on something "special" that they were neglected for quite some time! I thought that they were the perfect embellishment for this card. Thanks to Wendy B. for the perfectly matching bradlets. If you are looking for a burgundy cardstock, Bazzill Barkley is perfect!

No Sentiment Required

Another simply elegant design. I love to use striped paper in my designs, but this time I used a patterned paper as a stripe to frame my primary patterned paper piece. Can you say that 5 times quickly?!

Shiny Ornaments

Once again, I have chosen to highlight an element in the patterned paper. This time I applied Glossy Accents to the ornament with "joy" on it. Working with the designs within patterned papers is another convenient short cut. When attaching a bow to my cards, I like to use the Bow Easy. It's an inexpensive (thanks Lynn) tool that creates a flat bow with a nice knot.

Create a Frame from a Pendant

I popped up this Fleur De Lis die cut to frame my reindeer. The shadow created draws attention to my focal point. Also, inking the edges of the die cut, gradually from light to dark, draws the eye to the centre of the card too.

Hangin' In There

Here's another "must have" Tim Holtz die. I couldn't wait to put this card together, but did have some trouble finding jump rings. I'm sure with the latest craze for jewelry making this soon won't be a problem. I have learned, however, that Tim is selling his own package of rings and hope that Deb can get them. Here I have used the Rusted Grunge technique as seen here:

Just "Birdiful"

Birds and bird cages are popular icons in the paper crafting world. When I saw this Tim Holtz die I had to have it; I knew immediately what my first choice of paper would be to use with it. I was pleased how easily the die cut through chipboard, although I recommend two passes through the Big Shot to ensure a completely clean cut. I can appreciate the versatility of this die and look forward to making many cards of different themes with it.

Another Sticker Sensation

This sticker came with its own glitter, but there's no reason you can't take one of your stickers up a notch and add your own sparkle. Distress Stickles will match the Distress Ink you use and they are unique from other stickles in that they dry with somewhat of a texture.

Cricuts & Cards

I don't have a Cricut, but sure am glad that I know wonderful people who do. Thanks goes to Christine and Sandra who were kind enough to share their resources and cut this gorgeous Christmas tree for me. I didn't have a stamp that was the appropriate size and love this silhouette!
Note that you can get Stickles in coordinating Distress Ink colours. Here I used Antique Linen Stickles on the tree.

Another Heartfelt Poinsettia

This poinsettia was made in the same way as the one previously posted. I just added a different twist by using beads as the centre of my flower. Beads are a hot item in the craft industry right now; keep your eyes open for colours and combinations that would work well in cardmaking.

Simply Christmas

This card and some of the ones to follow in the next 7 weeks will be simple cards on which I have used up scraps of patterned, Christmas themed papers. With so many cards to make, it's wise to follow the KISS (keep it simple stupid) rule. This card illustrates how Distress Inks are rich enough in colour to be used for stamping sentiments, unlike other dye inks.

Tim's Tattered Rose

This rose was created using 3 of the 6 petal flowers from the Tattered Florals Die. Individual petals were cut from each whole petal to have the following to work with: a 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 part petal. Each flower layer was curled and glued, somewhat cone shaped. I hope this makes sense! Here is an online tutorial for those of you who appreciate visual instruction:

A Heartfelt Poinsettia

I used the Heartfelt Poinsettia stamps which were made to coordinate with the Spellbinder Blossoms 2 dies to make this flower. As before, I used two of each of the larger petals and one smaller one to creative "just enough" height to suit the front of a card. I also used the same Antique Linen Distress Ink to stamp the flowers and ink the edges of the petals. Antique Brass Glimmer Mist compliments this colour of ink and allowed the petals to be pliable enough to curl with the end of a thin paint brush. In the centre of the flower I applied Gold Pearl Liquid Pearls. The sentiment is from Gina K's Fanciful Tag stamp, created to coordinate with the Spellbinder Fancy Tag dies. Buy coordinating products to get more bang for your buck!

Tim's Tattered Floral Die

I created the flower on this card with Tim Holtz' new die, incorporating each of the sizes of petals. I used two of each of the 3 larger petals and one of the smallest, to get a graduated look. The lighter weight of this patterned paper did not allow me to emboss it; besides, the Core'dinations cardstock was dry embossed and you can always have too much of a good thing. To tone down the dry embossed and sanded cardstock, I sprayed it with one of the same Glimmer Mists (Tattered Leather) that I used on the flower. Copper Glimmer Mist was used on the assembled flower to coordinate with the copper embellishments.
