Hanging By a Thread

A Row of Hearts

Not only did I use up scraps of coordinating patterned papers, but I used a variety of heart dies and punches to create this design. A foam square beneath the ribbon die cut draws the eye to the sentiment.

A Hanging Heart

I chose an image to stamp based on the patterns in both papers.  The stamped image both compliments the top paper and contrasts enough with the bottom to coordinate well.

Look Out the Window!

The "Bricked" embossing folder by Sizzix perfectly support the window die from Memory Box. To enhance the detail in the bricks, I applied Silver Glimmer Mist, blotting the excess on the bricks and allowing the remainder to sit as "mortar". The "panes of glass" are automatically cut out when the window die is used and an image must be stamped on a piece of paper to be placed between the dies and the embossed paper.

Sparkly Garland

Tried a product (new to me) called Glistening Snow Writer by DecoArt. I assumed that the "snow" implied that it dried white. Guess I was wrong. Can't say I'd recommend this one.

Little Letters

The appreciation of the use of Tiny Alpha Letters for the "title" of this card is much better appreciated in real life. The photograph doesn't do the stickers justice, but they spell out "boo 2 you". Though my first instinct was to make the die cut out of solid cardstock, I like the patterned house. This paper was taken from the same product line as the paper used as a background on the card front--probably why they work well together. Once again, tiny googly eyes were used on the bat.

Mix It Up

To give a tree more "life", I decided to make the die cut out of patterned paper. This provided me with a palette of colours to use for my card design. I stamped the witch image twice, once directly on the card front and once on a piece of orange cardstock. Then I cut out the pumpkin so I could create dimension with a "popped" element.

Boo

This card incorporates die cuts not necessarily associated with Hallowe'en. I've used the fence and the grass to balance the weight of the pumpkin. Stamping a solid, black image on a pumpkin creates the look of a carved silhouette.  There are many ways to use what we have to create something new and updated.

Fake Tape

Paper tape or washi tape is quite popular these days. Without any on hand, I decided to "fabricate" my own by using scraps of patterned paper, cut the same width. Once again, papers from the same product line take the guess out of coordinating designs. For dimension, the pumpkin face elements were cut out of black felt.

Coloured Ink on Coloured Cardstock

Another great idea from Dawn McVey @ http://dawnmcvey.typepad.com/. I often forget how much I like coloured ink stamped on coloured cardstock. Papertrey Ink makes dies to match their stamp images. They are, however, solid, requiring the die cuts to be made first and stamped second.

Slim Pickin's

I used the remainder of scraps I had from pieces of Stampin' Up patterned paper to make various flowers. The pot is three dimensional because I used foam squares in the centre and flat, adhesive dots on the sides, to adhere it to the card front.
